Setup takes less than a minute
Prop your phone
Lean it against your bag about six feet from the ball, facing across your target line. It just needs to stay still. No tripod, no mount.
Drop a card
Any credit-card-size card. Every one on earth is exactly 85.6 × 54.0 mm, which is how we turn pixels into yards.
Frame the sky
Tilt the phone until the horizon sits in the lower third. Bright sky keeps the shutter fast and makes the ball easy to find.
Hit your bucket
The sound of impact triggers each measurement. Swing away, and your per-club carries build as you go.

A phone camera is not a $20,000 radar, and we won't dress it up as one. Every number in the app belongs to one of three categories, and the app tells you which.

The number that actually fixes your scorecard is the gap
Most golfers don't lose strokes because their 8-iron carries 147 instead of 150. They lose strokes because they think it carries 160. Errors in a session are systematic (same phone, same spot, same light), so while any single shot is ±15 yards, the gap between your clubs comes out much tighter. That's the number worth knowing, and it's the one SmartYardage is built around.
